GOUT :-

Gout is a painful inflammatory
condition that is characterized
biochemically as a disorder of uric acid metabolism and
Clinically by hyperuricaemia and
recurrent attacks of acute arthritis.

➡ If the condition remains untreated
over a period of years, deposition of
sodium urate crystals may occur in joints ( gouty arthritis), subcutaneous tissue
(tophi), and renal parenchyma (gouty nephropathy).

Drug treatment in gout is used for two purpose:-

1. To relieve an acute attack . example:- ➡colchine,
➡NSAIDs, ➡ corticosteroids

2. To decrease the amount of uric acid in the body by :-
➡increasing excretion of uric acid by using uricosuric agents like probenecid, sulfinpyrazone.
➡ Inhibiting the synthesis of uric acid.

Example:-
